Petition for Paid Medical Leave to Care for Pets

Have you ever had to miss work because your pet was sick? Most of us have been in this situation – and it is always a difficult decision to make. Should you go to work and risk your pet’s health, or stay at home and lose a day’s wages?
Unfortunately, for most of us the choice is clear. We have to go to work. But what if there was another option? What if you could take paid time off to care for a sick pet? This is the purpose of our petition.
We believe that animals should receive the same emergency care as humans. Therefore, all employees should be provided with paid leave for medical care of their pet.
Helping animals in need
Our Foundation has saved 3,000 animals since 2006.
Animals such as dogs and cats get sick just as unexpectedly as their owners. And when this happens, they need immediate medical attention. This often means taking them to the vet for urgent care. However, many employers do not recognize pet care as a valid reason to take time off work. As a result, employees must choose between caring for a sick animal or going to work and potentially losing their job.
This is an unfair ultimatum that should not be given to anyone, especially those who are struggling to make ends meet. We believe that animals should receive the same emergency care as humans. Therefore, all employees should be provided with paid leave for medical care for their animals
